Every year people gather in George Town to defend the Island from a pirate attack. It is most islanders favourite time of year. It’s not that people like pirates, it’s not that people like being raped and pilaged. It’s more that people like dresing up and pretending to be mean smelly pirates for a week.
There are many goings on during the Pirates Week activities, some of which are Cardboard Boat Racing, Pirates Landing, lots of Fireworks, street parties, costume competitions and many more festivities!
Pirates Week is a time when Cayman Islanders, expatriates and tourists all come together in the guise of having fun! Hopefully there will be none of the Cayman Dancehall that happened during Batabano, which whilst maybe imitating rape is kinda sorta not the point of Pirates Week !
